For the first time in the history of our sport, archery will be included in the 2015 African Games”, announced Dr Selwyn Moskovitz at the inaugural meeting of the Imizamo Yethu (IY) Archery Club in Cape Town. The IY club is an outreach program to black youth in the squatter camp that started some years ago with a seed of 15 young archers. The club, which has on its agenda, affiliation with the Western Province Provincial archery structures, was donated three development bows and two butts to extend its facilities. In making the announcement, Dr Moskovitz thanked Dr Alaa of the Egyptian Federation, President of World Archery Africa and an executive member of the World Archery Federation, who, after a number of years, enabled our federation to join the IOC recognised 50+ strong Association of African Sports Federations (AASF). A number of officials and dignitaries present at the IY meeting promised assistance to the new club after hearing that the AASF Secretary General, Mr Michel Tchoya sent a message of congratulations and said that “… the extensive participation of renown athletes in the African Games Brazzaville 2015 by making them qualifiers for the Olympics RIO 2016”.
