With only nine butts, each catering for four archers, a double session, 2-1 double detail made it a day of archery at the Protea Sports Club. As one of the two provincial tournaments taking place today (the other being the KZN Winter Indoor Challenge) as qualifiers for the team that will be selected to compete at the World Archery Indoor Championships, the Edna Trimmer Tournament demonstrated that archery is a sport for all. With the youngest competitor shooting under 13 and Martin Trimmer (3x Springbok athlete) at 82 shooting his arrows in the gold, local champions took to the line shooting personal bests and all time high scores.

The Western Province has a long tradition of aligning events with public holidays, catering for Women's Day shoots and Youth Day shoots, amongst others.

Today was no difference, using the first opportunity to shoot 67 arrows after Mandela Day. A full report and scores will be published in the August edition of the SA Archer. Members can view the scores and National Ranking in the Members Only Area shortly.

The Tournament was named in honour and remembrance of Springbok archer Edna Trimmer who was a regular competitor at Western Province and National Tournaments for many decades and who served as an inspiration to many South African archers. Seen here is Edna's widower, Martin and daughter, Bev.

A number of local champions took to the line, where personal bests and high scores were recorded. Full details of the day of archery will appear in the August edition of the SA Archer.
